Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is trash pickup?

A: Solid waste is picked up curbside on Thursdays throughout the neighborhood. Recycling is picked up curbside on the same day every other week (see schedule here). Carts should be rolled to the street by 7:00 am on pickup day and stored in a location away from the street after they have been emptied. Residents need to sign up and pay a monthly fee for yard waste service, which is picked up on Fridays.

Note: Services are sometimes delayed due to holidays, snow, or other hazardous weather.

Q: Can I put yard waste (leaves, sticks, grass clippings, etc.) in my garbage cart?

A: No. In order to have yard waste collected, you will need to have a separate yard waste cart and pay an $60 annual fee. See details here.

Q: How do I figure out who to talk to in the city government?

A: Try Durham One Call: (919) 560-1200 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, or here.
