Cross-posted from the TLNA listserv:

Dear Neighbors:

The newly renovated Lakewood YMCA is scheduled to open soon--around Thanksgiving!

YMCA officials gave a hard-hat tour last week to board members of "Save The Lakewood YMCA," and I was able to attend.  The new facility is going to be a wonderful asset to our community.  As you remember, there will also be a new Durham public school on the site:  a Montessori Middle School. Durham County owns the entire property; the YMCA will lease its facility from the County.

The YMCA officials expressed their interest in working with the whole community and being a full participant in the life of the surrounding neighborhoods. Features of the new building include two racquet ball courts, a huge wellness center (with an array of classes such as yoga and pilates), and locker rooms with steam and sauna rooms.  After school hours, the huge gym will be available for use by the Y also.  There will be a track and soccer fields in the back (those will open later--they're the last thing that will be completed).

The new manager of the Lakewood YMCA is Brad Meyers. He's very interested in hearing from the community with your questions or ideas.  You can email him at brad.meyers@ymcatriangle.org.

We're hoping to schedule an information meeting for Long Meadow and T-L with Brad in the near future. This will be a chance for residents to find out about the new facility and its program offerings. Watch the listserv for an announcement.

It will be so good to have the Lakewood Y back -- in a whole new updated building.

Frances
